When sending client data to an e-mail recipient or to file, a backup file is saved in a .CSD (Creative Solutions Data) file format.

In order to restore a .CSD file, you must have installed the same application and year of the application which was used to email / create the CS backup. The e-mail recipient / person restoring the .CSD file must also have the same application and year installed.

Restoring client data

To restore client data from the .CSD file into UltraTax CS or Fixed Assets CS, complete the steps below.

  1. Double-click the .CSD file to open it.
  2. Fixed Assets CS or UltraTax CS will automatically detect and recognize the data file and present the Restore dialog with the client selected on the right side. If the Restore dialog does not appear, read the following note. Otherwise, skip to the next step.

    Note: If prompted to run the attachment, click Run. Otherwise, if the only option is to Save the file to disk, click Save. When asked where to save the file, choose the Desktop (at the top of the list of folders) for easy access. Then, locate the file on the Desktop and double-click on it to restore the client.

  3. Click Restore to restore the client. If the same client exists in your current UltraTax CS data location, a prompt will appear to overwrite the existing client data.

If experiencing issues while restoring the .CSD file, verify the following:

  • Ensure that the correct version of the program is installed (e.g. UltraTax CS or Fixed Asset CS). For example, if restoring a .CSD file created using 2019 UltraTax CS, the same program must also be installed wherever the file is being restored.
  • Mark the CSLP.exe file to run as an administrator More Information
    1. Navigate to X:WinCSITools, where X represents the drive letter on which UltraTax CS and/or Fixed Assets CS are installed
    2. Right-click on the CSLP.exe file.
    3. Click Properties.
    4. Click the Compatibility tab.
    5. In the Privilege Level section (or the Settings section in Windows 8 and 10), mark the Run this program as an administrator checkbox.
    6. Click OK.

    Notes

    • You may need to restart your computer to apply this change.
    • The Run as administrator option may be unavailable for any of the following reasons.
